I saw this on Jim Whimpey’s blog. Basically the talk is about how too much choice is paralysing Americans into not making choices at all or being dissatisfied with their choices because their expectations are too high. I would argue that some people love all the choices and actually feel some satisfaction in simply finding some moderate happiness within their choice set.
If H is the set of all choices that we make to strive for happiness and H’ is the set of all choices where happiness is maximised, we are dissatisfied because we believe we aren’t achieving H’ when in fact H’ can never be achieved because we believe there is some better H” out there.
